Lawson Breaks Slump With 18 Points to Lead the Team

A.J. Lawson has been struggling as of late, averaging just 7 points per game in conference play. Against FAU, we got to see some of the slashing to the basket we frequently saw him do as a freshman. He’s been struggling with a wrist injury on his shooting hand for most of the season, so hopefully he is moving past that challenge. Lawson was 7 of 14 (50%) from the floor and made his one 3-pointer he attempted. 14 of his points came in the second half to lead both teams. He also was 3 of 4 from the free throw line, collected 6 total rebounds (3 offensive and defensive rebounds each) with two steals on 30 minutes of play.

Ryan Woolridge continues to lead the team in minutes play with 37 minutes against FAU. He is averaging 36.4 minutes per game, 5.9 assists per game, and 12.5 points per game. Zach Simmons also had a solid game adding 10 points to the total tally along with 8 rebounds. he continues to improve as season progresses. It’s great to see this new staff working to develop a big man.

If this team can get Smart, Lawson, and Woolridge playing to the potential along with some solid contributions from the rest of the bench, this team will be tough to beat. This team never stops hustling and has shown signs of some really good things, they just need to put it all together in one game. Given the youth on the team, one hopes it will happen this year but next year might be when everything finally clicks.
