MBB North Texas Opens Conference USA Play With Road Win at UTEP

North Texas started its 2017-18 Conference USA campaign with a road win at the Don Haskins Center, the first since December 29, 1952. The team didn't play its best but still managed to power through awful free throw shooting (10-18 55.6%) to muscle out a road win in front of a hostile Miner crowd in El Paso. Grant McCasland has lead this team to tie its win total from last season that finished at 8-22 and 2-16 in conference play. WBB: North Texas Off to Strong Start for 2017-18 Season

North Texas was picked to finish 8th in Conference USA this year and so far the Mean Green sit near the top with a solid 6-2 record. The Mean Green have four games remaining in their out of conference slate before starting off conference play at LaTech to kick off 2018. Even if the Mean Green were to finish 2-2, it would still be one of the best starts for the program in about a decade. North Texas Suffers Blowout Loss to FAU Owls

This is a game most every Mean Green fan wants to forget and hopefully the players and coaching staff use this as a "teachable moment" where a complete lack of preparation or a bad case of big head cost the team the game and possibly a chance at hosting the Conference Championship in Denton. I'm not going to cover the game as there really isn't much worth going over. Mason Fine Leads Team in Miracle Drive to Defeat UTSA With No Timeouts

UTSA Win - 10-13-2017

Mason Fine lead North Texas (4-2 3-0) on a 98-yard drive to score the winning touchdown in 67 seconds with just 1:07 left on the clock against the UTSA Road Runners (3-2 0-2). #TheDrive may become a defining moment in this season. Prior to #TheDrive, the Mean Green Defense needed to make a critical stop. The defense forced a much needed three-and-out and forced a punt. That punt though pinned North Texas deep in its own territory at the 2-yard line. North Texas continues to control its own destiny with this win making it the third straight win and a perfect record in conference play. The Mean Green are also two games away from becoming bowl eligible for the second straight year

Jalen Guyton Career Night Helps Lead Mean Green to Second Straight Conference Win

The North Texas (3-2 2-0) offense and defense got off to a bit of a slow start but once they got their feet underneath themselves, the tide started to change. North Texas also scored in both the first and second quarter, ending a Southern Miss (2-2 0-1) stat of preventing a team from scoring in those respective quarters. Saturday night's win puts the Mean Green at the top Conference USA West Division and gives North Texas a huge momentum boost heading into an off week before facing off against the Runners of UTSA. The West Division is wide open with UTSA, LaTech, and North Texas competing for the top spot. FB: Third Downs, Penalties, and Special Teams Sink All Hope of a Power 5 Road Win

North Texas (1-2 0-0) went to Iowa City to face off against the Iowa Hawkeyes (3-0 0-0) in search of their first win over a Power 5 conference school since facing off against the Texas Tech Raiders in 1999, defeating the Raiders 21-14 in Lubbock. Instead, the Mean Green fell to Iowa 31-14 with the Hawkeyes scoring 21 unanswered points and shutting out the Mean Green in the second half. https://twitter.com/ZacharyABabb/status/909141161134059521 Going into the half, North Texas held a slim 14-10 lead over the Hawkeyes. The first half seemed especially sloppy as both teams were called for all sorts of penalties. Both teams were fairly equal on most stats. The second half was a different story for the Mean Green however. Iowa was

Courtland Sutton delivered as anticipated with 163 yards on 8 receptions and 4 touchdowns. He has a future in the NFL and is hands down the best player on the Mustang roster.
