WBB Fourth Quarter Comeback Not Enough Against Tough Rice Squad

Hits: 183

In a series that has seen more than its fair share of closely contested games, this Friday night affair proved to be no exception. North Texas got off to a slow start, tied up the game by the end of the second quarter, got a few steps behind the Owls in the third and trailed by as much as 12 in the fourth quarter. North Texas battled back and took the lead late into the fourth quarter on some key defensive plays that lead to some big points. Poorly timed fouls late into the fourth quarter are what ultimately did North Texas in as Rice made 7 free throws on 10 attempts in the fourth quarter, more than they shot for the previous three quarters (6 of 8).

Scores by Period 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Total
Rice 15 6 14 15 50
North Texas 10 11 10 18 49

Deja Terriell is having a good freshman season so far. For the second time this season, she has provided some very solid minutes coming off the bench. This time she scored 14 points on 6 of 7 (85.7%!) from the floor and 2 of 4 (50%) from the free throw line. She collected 4 total rebounds (3 offensive and 1 defensive), 2 blocks, and 2 steals.

If you were to look at Terriell Bradley’s point total, you’d think she had a decent game except for the fact that nine of her points came from the charity stripe. She was 2 of 12 (16.7%) from the floor. Lauren Holmes did better compared to the LaTech game where we contributed 11 points, 6 steals, and rebounds. Holmes leads the team with 39 steals and Conference USA with 3.0 steals per game.

Another crazy end to a game in the SuperPit for 2018

Here is my account of the game late in the 4th quarter. This would be around the 1:30 mark or so.

To end the game, the ball was inbounded to Brittany Smith, she dribbles once, and attempts a more than half court shot that falls short as the buzzer sounds.
