North Texas (2-2 1-0) squeaked out a nail-biter against the UAB Blazers (2-2 0-1) with Trevor Moore kicking a 22 yard field goal with just seven seconds left on the game clock to put the Mean Green up 46-43. FB: Third Downs, Penalties, and Special Teams Sink All Hope of a Power 5 Road Win

North Texas (1-2 0-0) went to Iowa City to face off against the Iowa Hawkeyes (3-0 0-0) in search of their first win over a Power 5 conference school since facing off against the Texas Tech Raiders in 1999, defeating the Raiders 21-14 in Lubbock. Instead, the Mean Green fell to Iowa 31-14 with the Hawkeyes scoring 21 unanswered points and shutting out the Mean Green in the second half. https://twitter.com/ZacharyABabb/status/909141161134059521 Going into the half, North Texas held a slim 14-10 lead over the Hawkeyes. The first half seemed especially sloppy as both teams were called for all sorts of penalties. Both teams were fairly equal on most stats. The second half was a different story for the Mean Green however. Iowa was

FB: North Texas at Iowa Preview

North Texas is coming off a disappointing showing against DFW Rival SMU and is traveling up north to Iowa City, IA to face Hawkeyes for just the second time in program history. Currently, Iowa leads the brief series 1-0 and won 62-16 on Sept. 25, 2015. Currently, North Texas is 1-2 against the Big 10 Conference with the sole win coming against Indiana in 2011. North Texas is still in search of the program's 500th win although that will be a tall order against the Iowa Hawkeyes. North Texas faces a tough battle in Iowa as the Hawkeyes are ranked in the top 50 in all but the Special Teams category (Rank 52). Special teams is the weakest unit for North Texas

FB Third Down Defense/Special Team Play Sinks North Texas in SMU Upset Hopes

SMU (2-0 0-0) extended its overall record against the North Texas (1-1 0-0) to 31-5-1 by defeating the Mean Green 54-32. The reported attendance for the game was 24,638 but there is no way Ford Stadium was at two-thirds of its capacity. North Texas fans made about 5,000 of those reported in attendance. Courtland Sutton delivered as anticipated with 163 yards on 8 receptions and 4 touchdowns. He has a future in the NFL and is hands down the best player on the Mustang roster. North Texas got off to a an 10-0 lead but then SMU scored 38 unanswered points, shutting out North Texas for the second quarter. North Texas Opens 2017 Season With Some New Records

North Texas (1-0 0-0) started its 2017 campaign with a 59-14 rout of the Lamar Cardinals (0-1). The Mean Green are looking to continue the momentum from the 2016 season and post their second winning season in the last 10 years and last night's 668 total offensive yards, a new record that surpassed the 635 total yards against Navy in 2007, was a good start. The last time North Texas won its home opener it finished the season 9-4 with a bowl win. It's still very early in the season but it's hard not to flash back to 2013 when North Texas surprised a lot of folks with a special season. Hopefully this game is the start of another surprising season

FB Lamar vs North Texas 2017 Preview

In a game that was in question due to Hurricane Harvey hitting the Texas coastline hard with epic amounts of rainfall leading to tremendous flooding, we appear to have the season opening game happening this Saturday between the Lamar University Cardinals and the North Texas Mean Green in Denton, TX at 6:00 pm at Apogee Stadium. North Texas will be looking to start the 2017 season off strong as they work towards continuing on last season's momentum and their first winning season since 2013.
