MBB: North Texas Routs the Lumberjacks in First Game of the Rainbow Classic

North Texas continued its hot three point shooting draining 15 3-pointers against the Div. II Humboldt State Lumberjacks lead by redshirt freshman Umoja Gibson who shot a perfect six of six from behind the arc. Overall, the Mean Green shot 53.1% from the floor. North Texas had three players outscore the top Lumberjack scorer -- Umoja Gibson (27), Michael Miller (17), and Jorden Duffy (14) Perhaps the one blemish on the stat sheet is the free throw shooting where North Texas went 10-17 (58.8%). The Player of the Game is once again Umoja Gibson, who was 10 of 13 (76.9%!) from the floor, made all six of his 3-point shots, and made one of his two free throw shots. He also added five assists,

MBB: North Texas Starts 2018-19 Campaign Off With A Big Win Over Angelo State

North Texas kicked off its 2018-19 campaign with a coming out party for many of its new pieces that had to sit out last year for various reasons. Umoja Gibson and Jahmiah Simmons both got a start for the game while Mark Tikhonenko got some decent minutes late into the game. Gibson is going to provide another deep threat shooter for North Texas to go alongside with Roosevelt Smart and DJ Draper. Jahmiah Simmons should work well as another inside banger but has the ability to be good at driving to the rim from the perimeter. Roosevelt Smart sat out for the game due to a minor pre-season injury. The coaching staff has indicated that he is likely to return to the lineup after the Rainbow Classic

FB: Mean Green 2018 Football Schedule is Set

Kick-off times along with television coverage has been set for almost all of Conference USA member school contests. North Texas will have all but one game "televised," the either through traditional television broadcasts or some sort of streaming service. North Texas will have games broadcast by CBS Sports Network, SEC Network Alternate, beIN Sports, ESPN+, ESPN3 and Stadium. Three games, including the season finale against division rival UTSA in San Antonio, TX, will be streamed through the new ESPN+ service. A common complaint among North Texas fans is a "scheduling conflict" between the Red River Rivalry that is played early October down at the Fairgrounds in Dallas, TX and a home game at Apogee Stadium in Denton, TX on the same weekend. This year

MBB North Texas Outlasts Rice to Sweep the Owls and Three Game Homestand

North Texas finds yet itself battling it out in an ugly slugfest, this time with Rice Owls in the final game of a three game homestand. In the first half, neither team was able to find much of a groove, with both teams scoring a mere 51 combined. The second half is where the fireworks really started with shots finally falling, numerous lead changes and ties, and the outcome of the game not being decided until the final seconds when Ryan Woolridge hitting one of his two free throws to put the Mean Green up by 4 with 8 seconds left in the game. North Texas Rebrands the Mean Green Club into Scholarship Fund

North Texas Athletics announced that they are changing the Mean Green Club into the Mean Green Scholarship Fund in conjunction with 2018 Football Season Tickets going on sale. Also coming with the name change is a fairly dramatic change to how football and basketball priority seats are handled depending on your donorship level. A new site was developed and does a good job of explaining the new benefits package. Here is the story from the Denton Record Chronicle. The article highlights that North Texas sits near the bottom of Conference USA when it comes to donor participation and total dollars contributed. North Texas Athletics has long relied on the student body to be a primary "contributor" in terms of fees paid

MBB DJ Draper Clutch 3-Pointer Seals Mean Green Win Over Florida International

The Cardiac Kids pull out yet another close game, this time against the Florida International Panthers. The final 15 seconds of overtime may have provided a great thrill but may have also taken a few minutes off of many Mean Green fan lives. FIU's Beard was closely guarding Woolridge and Ryan lost the dribble where the ball squirted across the court. Ryan collected the ball and passed it off the an open D.J.
