North Texas (5-0) tied a program record in draining 19 3-pointers against the Texas A&M Commerce Lions (3-0). The last time the Mean Green drained this many 3-pointers was against Mary Hardin Baylor on Nov. 25th, 1996. North Texas got a solid performance for many of its players in this game to maintain its perfect record of 5-0 and 2-0 at home.
Umoja Gibson came up big again scoring 22 points to lead all scorers. He was eight of 13 (61.5%) from the floor and was six of 11 (54.5%) from 3-point range. He also added four total rebounds, four assists, and a steal to his total stat sheet on 25 minutes of play.

Everyone that logged minutes in the game scored, including freshman walk-on John Wegger.

Early Results Are In
North Texas has been playing amazingly well so far in the season, largely in part due to a very weak out of conference slate. North Texas has averaged 86 points per game while allowing 56 points per game. The Mean Green have been shooting from the floor a blistering 52.9% and 45.9% from 3-point land. Free throw shooting has improved (marginally) to 67.8% compared to last season’s 66.1%.
The scoring, especially the 3-pointers, is a surprise as the Mean Green have been without Junior Guard Roosevelt Smart who has been sitting out due to a calf injury. The coaching staff has been listing him as day-to-day. I suspect he could play at any time but the staff he keeping him sidelined since the team is performing phenomenally without him right. I’d expect to see him getting limited minutes ahead of the Oklahoma game on Tuesday, Nov. 27th in Norman, OK.
Highlight Reel
Up next for the Mean Green is the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks (0-3) on Saturday, Nov. 17 in the SuperPit at 5:00 PM. This game is part of a 3-game series in the Wolfpack Classic. The game will be available for streaming via the CUSA.tv website and radio carriers KNTU 88.1, KHYI 95.3, and the Mean Green Sports Tune-In channel.
Recruiting update
Point Guard Jalen Jackson signed with the Mean Green. He is listed as a top-20 PG in the country and also a top-20 overall player in Texas by both Rivals and 247Sports.
