MBB FAU 62 North Texas 70

The Mean Green (11-16 6-8) never trailed against the Florida Atlantic Owl in a Saturday night “Black Out”.  The starters did a good job however bench production continues to be a concern.  Hot shooting, especially in the second half, helped propel North Texas to victory.  A foul late in the game, which also led to Tony Benford earning a Technical Foul, could have been a game changer however the Owls never could capitalize on the potential momentum shift.

The Player of the Game goes to Deckie Johnson, who again shot extremely well, accounting for two of the team’s three 3-pointers. Overall, Deckie was 5 of 10 (50%) from the floor, 2 of 3 (66.6%) from behind the arc, and 7 of 11 (63.6%) from the Free Throw line. He also had 3 total rebounds (1 Offensive; 2 Defensive), 1 Assist, and 1 Steal on 37 minutes of play.

Also in double figures was Jeremy Combs (17) and J-Mychal Reese (14).

Game Stats are available here.

The Mean Green travel to Ruston, LA to take on the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on Thursday, February 25th at 8:00 PM. The game is also available via the American Sports Network.

A brief look into the next game against the Bulldogs

Again North Texas has a two game win streak but will they be able to take that momentum and earn a third consecutive win?  The Mean Green has not been able to manage more than two consecutive wins all season.  Also, North Texas is a paltry 1-10 on the road with the sole win coming against the UTSA Road Runners.  North Texas did defeat Louisiana Tech on Feb. 6th in the SuperPit, so it is possible the Bulldogs will have a little revenge in mind for the Mean Green.
