Today was Day 4 of the 2016 Conference USA Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament. There were two Women's and two Men's games played in Semifinal action. In the Men's bracket (5) Old Dominion defeated (8) Western Kentucky and (2) Marshall defeated (3) Marshall. In the Women's bracket (5) Old Dominion upset top seeded (1) UTEP and (2) Middle Tennessee defeated (6) Marshall. This is an interesting situation as for both the Men's and Women's bracket the same schools are facing each other for the Tournament Championship. It just so happens that those schools also seeded exactly the same. WBB Late Push not Enough to Overtake Old Dominion in Second Round of the 2016 Conference USA Tournament
North Texas (11-19) attempted a push late, but foul trouble and an Old Dominion team shooting 81% from the free throw line thwart a come-from-behind bid 55-62 ending the season for the Mean Green at Bartow Arena in Birmingham, AL. The Mean Green had three players finish in double digits -- Kelsey Criner (13), Candice Adams (13), and Terra Ellison (11). https://twitter.com/CUSAWBK/status/707681318260318210 Game stats are available here. I will be posting an outlook on the past season plus look into the future on how the 2016-2017 might look with a host of newcomers suiting up for the Mean Green next season some time next week.

WBB North Texas Defeats FAU 79-74 and Advances to Second Round of the CUSA Tournament
North Texas wins its first tournament game since the 2011-2012 Season North Texas (11-18) defeated the Florida Atlantic Owls 79-74 in a closely fought battle. The Mean Green lead for much of the game but FAU battled back in the fourth quarter however it wasn't enough to overtake a hot but evenly balanced offense that shot 48.1% (26-54) from the floor, 46.7% (7-15) from behind the arc, and 87.0% (20-23) from the free throw line. Five Mean Green players scored double digits, four of whom were starters -- Criner (16), Adams (15), Tac (15), Ellison (10), and Jones (14). North Texas also put in its highest scoring game of the season at 79 points. First year Head Coach Jalie Mitchell became the fourth

North Texas (9-15 4-10) fell on the road to the Florida Atlantic Owls in Boca Raton, FL. The first quarter was the best for the Mean Green but they struggled from the second period onward never breaking out of the low teens for any other quarters. Acheil Tac was the Player of the Game where she earned another double-double, making this her 9th of the season and third consecutive. Tac was 11 of 20 (55%) from the floor and a perfect 3 of 3 from the Free Throw line. She had 14 total rebounds (8 Offensive; 6 Defensive) with 2 Blocks and 2 Steals with

The Mean Green (11-16 6-8) never trailed against the Florida Atlantic Owl in a Saturday night "Black Out". The starters did a good job however bench production continues to be a concern. Hot shooting, especially in the second half, helped propel North Texas to victory. A foul late in the game, which also led to Tony Benford earning a Technical Foul, could have been a game changer however the Owls never could capitalize on the potential momentum shift. The Player of the Game goes to Deckie Johnson, who again shot extremely well, accounting for two of the team's three 3-pointers. Overall, Deckie was 5 of 10 (50%) from the floor, 2 of 3 (66.6%) from behind the arc, and 7 of 11
