North Texas (7-13 2-5) fell to the UAB Blazers extending the losing streak to four games. North Texas was perfect from the line tonight shooting 9 of 9 on its Free Throws however shot well under their season average of 46.6% hitting just 37.1 of their shots. The Mean Green bench was also out scored 2 to 29.  Turnovers were also another problem for the Mean Green as they doubled up the Blazers 18 to 9.

Today’s player of the game is again Jeremy Combs but Deckie Johnson deserves serious consideration as well. Combs shot 7 of 13 (53.8%) from the floor and was a perfect 5 of 5 (100%) from the line while bringing in 12 total Rebounds (5 Offensive; 7 Defensive).  Tonight he earned his 6th consecutive double-double and 9th of the season. Combs added 3 Assists with 3 Turnovers to his stat sheets for the night.

Johnson was 4 of 15 (26.6%) from the floor, 1 of 8 (12.5%) from behind the arc, and a perfect 4 of 4 (100%) from the stripe while bringing in 11 total Rebounds (5 Offensive; 6 Defensive).  The 11 rebounds is a season and career best for Johnson and also gives him his first career double-double. Johnson also had 3 Assists with 6 Turnovers and 1 Steal on 37 minutes of play.  Also in double-digits in tonight’s contest was Eric Katenda with 12 points.

North Texas has 11 just games left to win nine games in order to finish the regular season with a record above .500.

Rickey Brice Jr. and Carrington Ward did not play today.

North Texas returns to action on January 30th at 7:00 PM in Houston, TX to face the Rice Owls.  North Texas previously faced Rice on January 9th and defeated the Owls 85 to 74. Perhaps the Mean Green’s biggest challenge will be the fact that they are 1-7 overall while on the road.
