North Texas kicked off its conference slate on the road at UTSA in San Antonio, TX.  The Mean Green only managed 25 first half points on 10 of 22 (45.5%) shooting from the floor.  The Mean Green clamped down on defense to reverse things up allowing the Mean Green to pull ahead.  However, Free Throw shooting continues to be a problem as North Texas was only 13 of 28 (46.4%) from the line.  This was the Mean Green’s first road win of the season. However, North Texas has yet to defeat an opponent that has a winning record.

This evening’s Player of the Game is Ja’Michael Brown coming off the bench with a career high of 21 points shooting 8 of 14 (57.1%) from the floor and 5 of 9 (55.5%) from behind the arc on 32 minutes of play.  Another big contributor and a hot hand is Deckie Johnson ringing in 18 points on 38 minutes.  Johnson shot 4 of 8 (50%) from the floor, 4 of 6 (66.7%) from behind the arc, and he hit a 6 of his free throws, allowing to become the leading scorer for the team.  Also in double digits this game J-Mychal Reese and Jeremy Combs.

The leading defender of the game was Freshman Rickey Brice Jr. with 11 rebounds (1 Offensive, 10 Defensive) on 21 minutes while dealing with foul trouble.

Up next is the UTEP Miners in El Paso, TX on January 3rd with tip-off set for 4 PM.  The game is on TV however the broadcast is by American Sports Network, which must have a local station pick up the feed by a local channel for Mean Green fans to have a chance to watch the game on television.
