North Texas was led in scoring by two freshman who accounted for 52 of the 80 points scored by the Mean Green against Rice.
Player of the Game was a close decision but it needs to go to a player who had an explosive career night for the Mean Green — A.J. Lawson. He scored 31 points, which set a new career record which was set just a little over a week ago against Charlotte at 23. Lawson was 10 of 15 (66.7%) from the floor, 1 of 3 (33.4%) from behind the arc, and 10 of 12 (83.3%) from the free throw line. He also added 7 rebounds (2 offensive; 5 defensive), an assist, a block, and a steal on 35 minutes of play.
Also having a career night was Ryan Woolridge who was the only other player to reach double digits. He scored 21 points on 6 of 12 (50%) shooting from the floor, 5 of 6 (83.3%) from behind the arc, and 4 of 6 (66.7%) from the free throw line.
The Mean Green pack their bags to travel to face the Florida twins next week. First up will be Florida Atlantic on Thursday, February 9th at 6:00 PM in Boca Raton, FL. This is an important series for the Mean Green if they want to have a shot at making the Conference USA Tournament.
