Player of the Game goes to Derail Green who came off the bench to score 17 total points, where all but 2 points were from behind the 3-point line. He was 5 of 10 (50%) from behind the arc and 2 of 4 (50%) from the Free Throw line while collecting 6 total rebound (1 Offensive; 5 Defensive), 1 Assist, and 1 Steal.
Also in double digits for the Mean Green was Ryan Woolridge (15) coming off the bench and A.J. Lawson (14). The Mean Green bench out-scored the started 40 to 25. Additionally, North Texas had another poor game shooting from the Free Throw line where they were 10-24 (41.7%).
The Mean Green travel to Ruston, LA to play the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (13-6 5-1) on Saturday, January 21st at 6:00 PM to finish out a three game road swing. La Tech currently sits at second place in the Conference USA standings. I don’t see this game going well as La Tech is another solid team with strong fundamentals. North Texas has 12 games to win 9 if they are going to finish at a 15-15 record for the season.
Finally, it is looking more and more like North Texas will go winless for the month of January as I feared (predicted) might happen. The Mean Green needed to win this game as Southern Miss was their easiest opponent for January.
