Editor’s note: I have taken the past week of for New Year’s and am catching up on my stories and stats. The goal is to be caught up before the weekend is over.
UAB 54 (8-7 1-1)
North Texas 52 (6-9 0-3)

Starters

Jeremy Combs
Derail Green
Ryan Woodridge
Ja’Michael Brown
J-Mychal Reese

Player of the Game honors goes to J-Mychal Reese who lead the team with 16 points on 31 minutes of action.  He was 7 of 11 (63.6%) from the floor, 0 of 2 from behind the arc, and 2 of 4 (50%) from the Free Throw line while picking up a defensive rebound, an assist, and a steal.

The only other player in double digits was Jeremy Combs with 10 points.

The Mean Green did not shoot the ball well as they were 1 of 15 (6.7%) from behind the arc and 5 of 9 from the free throw line. Many of the stats were even between the two teams — 33 total rebounds each, 3 more turnovers committed by UAB, 3 more fouls by North Texas. I think where it came down to the nitty-gritty was UAB shot from behind the arc better — 5 of 22 for 22.7% versus 1 of 15 for 6.7% by the Mean Green in addition to UAB going on a come-from-behind 12-to-2 run to finish the game in the final minutes of the game.

Up next for the Mean Green is the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders, who have the best overall record in Conference USA with a 12-3 and 2 wins in conference play. Tip off is set for 2:00 PM in Denton, TX at the Super Pit on Saturday, January 7th. North Texas is staring down the chance at opening conference play at 0-4 if it doesn’t somehow pull out a win.
