Athletics Wren Baker Reflects on His First 150 Days

Several weeks ago Wren Baker published a letter outlining what has been accomplished within the first 150 days of his tenure as Vice President and Athletics Director for the University of North Texas. I would have had this done sooner but I’ve had some other things pop up in my personal life that prevented me from working on this recap.

In Women’s Basketball action, Middle Tennessee fell to Georgia Tech in the Third Round of the WNIT, thus eliminating them from the tournament. Rice defeated Idaho 86-80 in the Final Four of the Women’s Basketball Invitational. Rice will move on to the Final Round of the Women’s Basketball Invitational to face off against the University of North Carolina at Greensboro on Sunday, March 26th at 4:00 PM.

2017 Conference USA Postseason Week 1 Round 2

On the Men’s Basketball side, Middle Tennessee was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament by Butler 74-65 on Saturday. Rice fell to Utah Valley 85-79 on Monday and was eliminated in the CIT. On the Women’s Basketball side, Middle Tennessee defeated Wake Forest 73-66 in the WNIT on Sunday to advance to play Georgia Tech in Round 3 on Thursday, March 23rd at 7:00 PM ET; and Rice defeated UT Rio Grande Valley in the WBI on Sunday 73-63 and advances to the WBI Final Four. Rice will face off against Idaho in the semi-finals on Thursday, March 23rd at 7:00 PM CT.

In Men’s Basketball, (12) Middle Tennessee defeats (5) Minnesota to advance to the Round of 32 to face (4) Butler on Sat. March 18th. Rice Defeated San Francisco to advance to play Utah Value on Mon. March 20th. In Women’s Basketball, Western Kentucky fell to Ohio State; Southern Miss fell to Arkansas Little Rock; Louisiana Tech fell to SMU; Middle Tennessee defeated Morehead State to advance to the next round to play Wake Forest on Sun. March 19th. In the WBI, RIce defeated Lamar and will advance to play UT Rio Grande Valley on Sun. March 19th.

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders were seeded at the #12 Sport and will face off against #5 seed Minnesota in Milwaukee, WI on March 16 at 3:00 PM Central. The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers will face off against the Ohio State Buckeyes in a #12 versus #5 matchup. Louisiana Tech, Southern Miss, and Middle Tennessee also have received invites to the field of 64 in the WNIT.
