North Texas/Liberty Agree to Home-and-Home Series

Hits: 57

North Texas and Liberty have agreed to a home-and-home series starting with the Mean Green making a trip to Lynchburg, Virginia on September 22, 2018. The Flames will make a return trip to Denton, TX on October 9th, 2021. This home and home series appears to take the place pf two games against the Black Knights of Army.

Liberty is transitioning to FBS and will be an Independent, so there are no concerns over whether the game will or will not be counted towards bowl eligibility (it will). Liberty is a “middle-aged” program as their football program played its first down starting in 1973 as a NAIA Independent.

  • 1973–80, NAIA Independent
  • 1981–88, Division II Independent
  • 1989–2001, Division I-AA Independent
  • 2002–2017, Big South Conference
  • 2018– FBS Independent

Army Series?

North Texas and Army agreed to a six game series back in 2008. The question now is what will happen to the games that were replaced with Liberty for 2018 and 2021? Will those games be rescheduled at all?

North Texas and Army have played one game out of the agreement. Right now the games still scheduled out of the three remaining games in the series are:

  • Army at North Texas – Nov. 18, 2017
  • Army at North Texas – Sept. 14, 2019
  • North Texas at Army – Oct. 10, 2020
