{"id":228,"date":"2016-01-20T18:21:35","date_gmt":"2016-01-21T00:21:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ntsportsstats.com\/site\/?p=228"},"modified":"2016-01-31T22:02:08","modified_gmt":"2016-02-01T04:02:08","slug":"mbb-keith-frazier-transferring-to-north-texas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ntsportsstats.com\/site\/2016\/01\/20\/mbb-keith-frazier-transferring-to-north-texas\/","title":{"rendered":"MBB Keith Frazier is Transferring to North Texas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Views: 222<\/p><p>Former <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smumustangs.com\/sports\/m-baskbl\/mtt\/keith_frazier_847112.html\" target=\"_blank\">SMU Junior Guard<\/a> Keith Frazier is all but signed, sealed, and delivered to be playing with the North Texas Men&#8217;s Basketball program starting as early as the spring of 2017. \u00a0Frazier left SMU during the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.si.com\/college-basketball\/2016\/01\/05\/smu-mustangs-keith-frazier-leaves-team\" target=\"_blank\">winter break<\/a> citing frustration with his current situation within the basketball program.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/college-sports\/basketball\/recruiting\/player\/_\/id\/104886\/keith-frazier\" target=\"_blank\">Keith Frazier<\/a> was a member of the 2013 Recruiting Class. His hometown is Dallas, TX where he went to school at the local basketball power Dallas Kimball High School. \u00a0He was ranked at #49 in the <a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/college-sports\/basketball\/recruiting\/playerrankings\/_\/class\/2013\" target=\"_blank\">ESPN 100<\/a>; <a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/college-sports\/basketball\/recruiting\/playerrankings\/_\/position\/shooting-guard\/class\/2013\/view\/position\" target=\"_blank\">11th in his position<\/a> (Shooting Guard); <a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/college-sports\/basketball\/recruiting\/playerrankings\/_\/region\/midlands\/class\/2013\/view\/region\" target=\"_blank\">8th in the region<\/a> (East); and <a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/college-sports\/basketball\/recruiting\/playerrankings\/_\/state\/texas\/class\/2013\/view\/state\" target=\"_blank\">6th in the State<\/a> (Texas).<\/p>\n<h3>Troubled Past<\/h3>\n<p>In January 2015, Frazier was <a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/dallas\/mens-college-basketball\/story\/_\/id\/12177781\/keith-frazier-smu-mustangs-ruled-academically-ineligible-appeal\" target=\"_blank\">ruled academically ineligible<\/a> for the remainder of the 2014-2015 season. At the time SMU was making a case for possible (and eventual) berth into the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncaa.com\/interactive-bracket\/basketball-men\/d1\" target=\"_blank\">NCAA Tournament<\/a> (6th Seed in the South Bracket). In the summer of\u00a02015, SMU became the target of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.si.com\/college-basketball\/2015\/07\/30\/smu-larry-brown-ncaa-investigation\" target=\"_blank\">NCAA investigation<\/a> surrounding Frazier and some of his coursework which resulted in <a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/mens-college-basketball\/story\/_\/id\/13769364\/college-sports-bans-smu-mustangs-2016-postseason-suspends-larry-brown-30-percent-team-games\" target=\"_blank\">SMU receiving a post-season ban<\/a> for the current 2015-2016 season and Head Coach Larry Brown suspended for the first nine games.<\/p>\n<h3>New Future at North Texas?<\/h3>\n<p>Keith Frazier could join <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntsportsstats.com\/stats\/Bball\/Player\/?p=9\" target=\"_blank\">Jeremy Combs<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntsportsstats.com\/stats\/Bball\/Player\/?p=46\" target=\"_blank\">Deckie Johnson<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntsportsstats.com\/stats\/Bball\/Player\/?p=47\" target=\"_blank\">J-Mychal Reese<\/a> as early as the end of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unt.edu\/catalogs\/2016-17\/calendar.htm\" target=\"_blank\">2016 Fall semester<\/a>. \u00a0Frazier would have to sit out at a minimum the 2016 Spring semester and 2016 Fall semester due to NCAA transfer rules. \u00a0It is not exactly clear whether he would have 1.5 season left to play after sitting out.<\/p>\n<p>Frazier could bring a much needed injection of offense to the Mean Green. \u00a0Currently North Texas only has three players managing double digits in points production.
